Abbot is a town in Piscataquis County, Maine, United States. The population was 714 at the 2010 census. It was named for the treasurer of Bowdoin College, John Abbot. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.5 square miles (92 km2), of which, 34.7 square miles (90 km2) of it is land and 0.8 square miles (2.1 km2) of it (2.25%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 630 people, 272 households, and 196 families residing in the town. The population density was 18.1 people per square mile (7.0/kmē). There were 461 housing units at an average density of 13.3 per square mile (5.1/kmē). The racial makeup of the town was 98.25% White, 0.16% African American, 0.63% Native American, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 0.32% from two or more races. There were 272 households out of which 24.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.8% were married couples living together, 8.1% had a female householder...
