Acme Township is a civil township of Grand Traverse County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township population was 4,332. It takes its name from the Greek word acme meaning summit. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 25.3 square miles (66 km2), of which, 25.2 square miles (65 km2) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) of it (0.63%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 4,332 people, 1,667 households, and 1,231 families residing in the township. The population density was 172.1 people per square mile (66.5/kmē). There were 2,215 housing units at an average density of 88.0 per square mile (34.0/kmē). The racial makeup of the township was 97.30% White, 0.23% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 1.06% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races.
