Ellis Township is a civil township of Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 519 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.6 square miles (92 km2), of which, 35.6 square miles (92 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) of it (0.14%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 519 people, 190 households, and 149 families residing in the township. The population density was 14.6 per square mile (5.6/kmē). There were 329 housing units at an average density of 9.2 per square mile (3.6/kmē). The racial makeup of the township was 96.92% White, 0.19% African American, 1.16% Native American, 0.19% Asian, and 1.54% from two or more races.
