The Town of Aguilar is a Statutory Town located in Las Animas County, Colorado, United States. Cattleman and prominent pioneer José Ramón Aguilar founded the town in 1894. The population was 593 at the 2000 census. Aguilar is located at 37°24?12?N 104°39?16?W? / ?37.40333°N 104.65444°W? / 37.40333; -104.65444 (37.403299, -104.654363), about one mile west of Interstate 25. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 593 people, 243 households, and 165 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,508.8 people per square mile (587.1/km²). There were 291 housing units at an average density of 740.4 per square mile (288.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 86.00% White, 3.04% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 6.91% from other races, and 3.71% from two or more races.
