Alleman was named for early settler John L. Alleman. It did not incorporate as a city until May 18, 1973, making it the most recent city to incorporate in Polk County. Alleman is located at 41°49?08?N 93°36?40?W? / ?41.818968°N 93.611051°W? / 41.818968; -93.611051 (41.818968, -93.611051). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.5 km2), all of it land. As of the census of 2010, there were 432 people and 152 households. The population density was 172.8 people per square mile (66.7/km2). There were 152 housing units at an average density of 60.8 per square mile (23.5/km2).
