Settled in the 19th century and incorporated in 1867, the city was named for a pioneer family in the area. Allensville is located at 36°42?57?N 87°4?12?W? / ?36.71583°N 87.07°W? / 36.71583; -87.07 (36.715842, -87.069909). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 189 people, 72 households, and 52 families residing in the city. The population density was 173.2 people per square mile (66.9/kmē). There were 84 housing units at an average density of 77.0/sq mi (29.8/kmē). The racial makeup of the city was 70.37% White, 28.04% African American, 1.59% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.59% of the population. There were 72 households out of which 23.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% were married couples living...
