Altona (formerly LaPier & Walnut Grove) is a village in Knox County, Illinois, United States. The population was 570 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Galesburg Micropolitan Statistical Area. Altona is located at 41°6?48?N 90°9?53?W? / ?41.11333°N 90.16472°W? / 41.11333; -90.16472 (41.113472, -90.164613). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.6 kmē), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 570 people, 216 households, and 160 families residing in the village. The population density was 560.8 people per square mile (215.8/kmē). There were 230 housing units at an average density of 226.3/sq mi (87.1/kmē). The racial makeup of the village was 99.47% White, 0.18% Asian, 0.35% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.88% of the population.
