According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2), all of it land. The honorable Mr. John S. Freeman served as Mayor of Anderson from 1999 to 2004. The honorable Mrs. Gayle Sowell served as Mayor of Anderson from 2004 until present. As of the census of 2000, there were 257 people, 92 households, and 59 families residing in the city.
