Aniak is located on the south bank of the Kuskokwim River at the head of Aniak Slough, 59 miles (95 km) southwest of Russian Mission in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. It lies 92 miles (148 km) northeast of Bethel and 317 miles (510 km) west of Anchorage. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city of has a total area of 8.8 square miles (23 km2), of which, 6.5 square miles (17 km2) of it is land and 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2) of it (25.82%) is water.
