Aransas Pass is a city in Aransas, Nueces, and San Patricio counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 8,138 at the 2000 census. Aransas Pass is located at 27°54?7?N 97°8?22?W? / ?27.90194°N 97.13944°W? / 27.90194; -97.13944 (27.901917, -97.139462). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 51.8 square miles (134.3 kmē), of which, 10.7 square miles (27.8 kmē) of it is land and 41.1 square miles (106.5 kmē) of it (79.29%) is water. The city is on the mainland of Texas and is connected to Mustang Island (which contains the city of Port Aransas) via a 6-mile (9.7 km)-long causeway, and a free ferry that carries vehicles to the island.
