Arapahoe is a city in Furnas County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,026 at the 2010 census. Arapahoe is located at 40°18?14?N 99°53?59?W? / ?40.30389°N 99.89972°W? / 40.30389; -99.89972 (40.303959, -99.899839). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), all of it land. In the spring of 1871, the Arapahoe Town Company was formed in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, under the leadership of Captain E. B. Murphy, for the purpose of establishing a settlement in the Republican River valley. The townsite was surveyed on July 18, 1871. The Company chose E. B. Murphy as the chairman of the board of trustees, C. Cowell, as the village clerk, and George W. Colvin as the village treasurer. The election was fairly informal: anyone in Furnas County who was 21 or older could vote. A post office was established in Arapahoe in 1872.
