Armstrong is located at 43°23?45?N 94°28?51?W? / ?43.39583°N 94.48083°W? / 43.39583; -94.48083 (43.395722, -94.480750). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.1 km2), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 979 people, 422 households, and 268 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,192.7 people per square mile (461.0/km²). There were 456 housing units at an average density of 555.5 per square mile (214.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.88% White, 0.20% African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.10% from other races, and 0.31% from two or more races.
