Aurora is a city in Marion County, Oregon, United States. It was founded as a religious commune in 1856 by Dr. William Keil who named the settlement after his daughter. The population was 918 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area. According to the United States Census Bureau, Aurora has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all land. The Pudding River flows northward, just east of Aurora. As of the census of 2000, there were 655 people, 250 households, and 186 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,441.8 people per square mile (562.0/kmē). There were 262 housing units at an average density of 576.7 per square mile (224.8/kmē). The racial makeup of the city was 94.20% White, 0.46% African American, 0.61% Native American, 1.07% Asian, 1.98% from other races, and 1.68% from two or more races.
