According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km2), all of it land. Soils of Baconton are mostly well drained or somewhat excessively drained. They have grayish brown loamy sand topsoils overlying yellowish brown or red sandy clay loam subsoils. All belong to the Ultisol soil order.
