Bamberg is located at 33°17?54?N 81°1?55?W? / ?33.29833°N 81.03194°W? / 33.29833; -81.03194 (33.298440, -81.031903). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.5 square miles (9.1 km2), of which, 3.5 square miles (9.1 km2) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) of it (0.56%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 3,733 people, 1,383 households, and 923 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,058.1 people per square mile (408.3/km²). There were 1,537 housing units at an average density of 435.6 per square mile (168.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 45.22% White, 53.58% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races.
