Baroda is a village in Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 858 at the 2000 census. The village is within Baroda Township. The first white settlers started to arrive in the 1830s and began clearing the land, draining the swamps, and building homes and farms. Michael Houser is considered the founder of Baroda, bargaining with the Indiana and Lake Michigan Railway Company to establish a station on his land. Houser platted the village and sold lots on very generous terms. Houser named the community after Baroda in Gujarat, India. The village incorporated in 1907. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 858 people, 362 households, and 232 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,343.2 per square mile (517.6/kmē).
