Barrackville was founded in 1767 by William "Indian Billy" Ice and named in honor of an early settler, John Barrack. It was incorporated January 25, 1968. Barrackville is located at 39°30?10?N 80°10?11?W? / ?39.50278°N 80.16972°W? / 39.50278; -80.16972 (39.502741, -80.169713), According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 kmē), all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,288 people, 534 households, and 373 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,863.0 inhabitants per square mile (720.7/kmē). There were 587 housing units at an average density of 849.0 per square mile (328.5/kmē).
