The town is a part of the Greenville Metropolitan Area located in North Carolina's Inner Banks region. Confusingly, there are two other towns in the state named "Bethel." One is between Edenton and Hertford in the "Finger Counties" region in the Northeast corner of the state, while the other is in the North-Central part in Caswell County. Bethel is located at 35°48?25?N 77°22?37?W? / ?35.80694°N 77.37694°W? / 35.80694; -77.37694 (35.806916, -77.376889). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), all of it land.
