Brandywine is the name of an unincorporated area in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States, that refers both to a census-designated place (CDP) and a political subdivision ("Brandywine District 11"), whose areas overlap. The CDP and District are adjacent to the southern border of Prince George's County, lying east and west of busy Maryland Route 5/U.S. Route 301, which merge at Brandywine. Brandywine District 11 includes the entire Brandywine CDP and extends north and east into the adjoining CDPs of Rosaryville, Marlton, Croom, Baden, and Cedarville. Cedarville State Forest is located just to the southeast of Brandywine. Although surrounded on either side by the sizable communities of Clinton and Waldorf, Brandywine itself has remained primarily rural and scenic; however, this is beginning to change, with new housing developments being built.
