Cheyenne Wells is a Statutory Town that is the county seat and most populous town of Cheyenne County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,010 at the 2000 census. J. L. "Dusty" Rhoades, a young Cheyenne Wells rancher, relocated to Texas in the 1930s, where he was a founder of the American Quarter Horse Association, based in Amarillo. Cheyenne Wells is located at 38°49?16?N 102°21?13?W? / ?38.82111°N 102.35361°W? / 38.82111; -102.35361 (38.821141, -102.353637). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), all of it land.
