Elgin is located at 31°37?45?N 110°34?19?W? / ?31.62917°N 110.57194°W? / 31.62917; -110.57194 (31.629095, -110.571951). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 48.5 square miles (126 km2), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 309 people, 123 households, and 86 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 6.4 people per square mile (2.5/km²). There were 153 housing units at an average density of 3.2/sq mi (1.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 91.59% White, 2.91% Native American, 3.24% from other races, and 2.27% from two or more races. 13.59% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
